The 15th annual Ventana Research Digital Leadership Awards recognize organizations and individuals that utilize technology to advance business and IT. The Awards showcase professional leadership and their use of business applications or technology that led to improved organizational efficiency, productivity and performance. These leaders and pioneers have contributed to their organization’s success and championed improvements across people, processes, information and technology.
Organizations can achieve significant innovation through the deployment and use of digital technology. Technologies such as analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, blockchain, bots and natural language, collaboration, cybersecurity, the internet of things and wearable computing can improve both efficiency and effectiveness for the organization and its IT operations. Embracing emerging technology is a necessity in today’s competitive market to enable the workforce and customers to engage effectively and to elevate the potential return on the organization’s assets.
Ventana Research selected Roche for the 15th Annual Digital Leadership Award in Digital Technology for its innovative approach to ingest and streamline events to digitally advance operations and business processes. Roche has more than 125 years of history and a mission to put patients at the center of everything they do. As the world’s largest biotech company, Roche made enhancing its IT architecture a top priority. It has more than 1,000 strategic applications across the globe that need to talk to each other, and the legacy enterprise service bus architecture had evolved into a spaghetti of point-to-point connections that offered little reuse. Roche developed and promoted a product mindset in the delivery and support of middleware integration technology to be future fit, cloud-ready, agile, consumer-centric and an enabler of faster business innovation. The parallel project of migrating to a new enterprise resource planning system also supported this initiative.
Roche selected the Solace PubSub+ Platform for event streaming and event management in the cloud and as the backbone for the event-driven aspects of the Roche digital transformation and integration strategy. Roche uses MuleSoft for the REST application programming interface-led aspects of the integration strategy. Roche also uses Salesforce Anypoint Community Manager for its Digital Integration Marketplace. Application consumers now search a digital marketplace and gain access to the desired application data in a self-serve manner using well-defined interfaces offered through the marketplace and its underlying infrastructure.
Roche and Suresh Jaganathan were selected for this new system that enabled swift business innovation and established migration and required integration across hundreds of applications spanning multiple clouds across multiple continents. The new integration infrastructure allows teams to utilize event-driven integration patterns with the new ERP system, allowing data to be pushed in real-time to wherever consumers are hosted. Roche’s manufacturing domain has also reaped similar benefits. Its central integration team treats the middleware infrastructure service as products, with a product mindset toward upgradability, life cycle management, backward compatibility and well-defined and documented principles.
Digital technology is an area for an organization to go beyond transformation and work towards innovation. Solace addresses the challenges of organizations that need to utilize events as the method to integrate and streamline business processes.
Organizations looking to maximize the value of business and technology investments across people and processes should consider how digital technology can optimize its digital potential. If you have not examined how Solace can help your organization, it is well worth your time. Congratulations, Suresh Babu Jaganathan at Roche, for your leadership.
