We are happy to share some insights about SAP drawn from our latest market research, Ventana Research Buyers Guide: DataOps, which assesses how well vendors’ offerings meet buyers’ requirements.
We recently published four Ventana Research 2023 DataOps Buyers Guides, an assessment of technology vendors and products that provide individual and combined DataOps, data observability, data orchestration and data pipeline platform support.
At Ventana Research, we continue to believe that, for most use-cases, there is a clear choice for DataOps platforms for any use in your organization. We developed four technology assessments and buyers guides to focus on overall DataOps requirements as well as specific data observability, data orchestration and data pipeline platform use-cases.
In all of our Buyers Guides, we utilize a structured research methodology called the Value Index that includes evaluation categories designed to reflect real-world criteria incorporated in a request for proposal (RFP) and vendor selection process for DataOps. We evaluated SAP and 17 other vendors in seven categories, five relevant to the product (adaptability, capability, manageability, reliability and usability) and two related to the vendor (TCO/ROI and vendor validation).
In the overall DataOps Buyers Guide, our analysis classified SAP as Exemplary, receiving an overall grade of B- with a 59.1% performance. SAP’s best grouped results came in Customer Experience at 85.2% performance and A- grade due in part to its A- in both TCO/ROI and Validation. In Product Experience, SAP received a C++ grade with a 54.5% performance due to its 45.5% performance in Capability. SAP was designated a Leader in Manageability. SAP did not participate in the RFI process.
SAP’s C++ grade in Product Experience was impacted by its C+ in Capability where it could add functionality to address data observability. Although the company scored well in Customer Experience with an A-, it could improve information about its tooling for TCO/ROI and references in Validation.
SAP performed best in Customer Experience, where its performance was due to its business case documentation in TCO/ROI and services and support in Validation. In Manageability, where it was a Leader with a B++ grade, privacy, security and technology administration are strengths. SAP’s technology architecture and operations and scalability led to its healthy performance and B+ grade in Reliability.
In the Data Orchestration Buyers Guide, our analysis classified SAP as Exemplary, receiving an overall grade of B+ with a 71.3% performance. SAP’s best grouped results came in Customer Experience at 85.2% performance and an A- grade due to receiving an A- in both TCO/ROI and Validation. In Product Experience, SAP received a B grade with a 67.7% performance due to its 80.4% performance in Manageability, in which SAP was designated a Leader. SAP did not participate in the RFI process.
SAP’s B grade in Product Experience was impacted by its B- in Usability where it could improve intelligence and accessibility. Customer Experience could be improved with better articulation of benefits.
SAP performed best in Customer Experience with an A- grade due to tooling to help customers calculate costs in TCO/ROI, and service, support and viability in Validation. In Reliability, technology architecture and operations and scalability are strengths. SAP’s focus on technology administration, security and privacy led to its B++ grade in Manageability.
In the Data Pipelines Buyers Guide, our analysis classified SAP as Exemplary, receiving an overall grade of B+ with a 69.3% performance. SAP’s best grouped results came in Customer Experience at 85.2% performance and A- grade due in part to its A- in both TCO/ROI and Validation. In Product Experience, SAP received a B+ with a 65.1% performance due to its 80.4% performance in Manageability. SAP was designated a Leader in Manageability. SAP did not participate in the RFI process.
SAP’s B+ grade in Product Experience was impacted by its B- grade in Capability where it could enhance pipeline testing and deployment. Customer Experience could be improved with better articulation of benefits.
SAP performed best in Customer Experience with an A- grade due to tolling to help customers calculate costs in TCO/ROI and service, support and viability in Validation. In Reliability, technology architecture and operations and security are strengths and led to a grade of B+. SAP’s focus on privacy and security led to its B++ grade and designation of Leader in Manageability.
SAP did not meet the inclusion criteria for the Data Observability Buyers Guide and thus was not included.
