San Ramon, Calif. – March 13, 2012 – Ventana Research is set to begin new benchmark research on the current state and maturity of product information management.
As products are added to retail and distributor networks and to catalogs and also web and mobile commerce sites, additional product information must be created, referenced and managed efficiently, which is where product information management comes into play. Competitive pressures require that the product information presented to customers be both up-to-date and accurate, so organizations must maintain a common set of information to ensure the efficient manufacturing, marketing and selling of products and services.
In this new benchmark research, Ventana Research will determine progress and identify emerging best practices associated with use of product information management in the past few years and the plans for the coming years. It will explore organizations’ best practices and experiences with deployments of PIM systems and the challenges they have faced in efforts to align business and IT resources and spending with business objectives. The results of this research will be compared to Ventana Research’s previous benchmark research on PIM, which found that less than one-quarter of organizations were fully mature in their use of product information.
“Product information is increasingly difficult to manage and organizations are always seeking ways to improve their efforts to reduce costly errors and time in existing processes,” said Mark Smith, CEO and Chief Research Officer of Ventana Research. “The unfortunate confusion on the applications and technology approach has hampered new efforts. This benchmark will establish the best practices and education to bring together business and IT efforts to improve product information management in the most efficient and cost effective manner.”
