Ventana Research Releases Benchmark Research on Information Optimization
New research offers insights into using information effectively through use of big data and analytics
SAN RAMON, CA, January 23, 2014 – Ventana Research today released the findings of its latest benchmark research on issues and best practices in the use of information by business and IT and how technology is being used to enable better utilization.
Information powers today's businesses, and the research makes clear that organizations are increasingly aware of the impediments they face in accessing and assembling information so that it is useful, relevant and ultimately actionable. This new research on information optimization, the latest from the leading business and technology market research firm, provides insight into the growing importance of improving tools and simplifying information availability, an issue that the research shows is very important to close to two-thirds (65%) of organizations today. It also quantifies businesses’ growing needs to rely on big data technology and be able to draw information from myriad heterogeneous repositories across the enterprise and in the cloud – needs that the research shows are critical to improve operational efficiency in two-thirds (67%) of organizations.
The research provide insights on how to optimize an organization’s use of information. It documents that organizations' people, process, information and technology competencies, their information management maturity, and the best practices they employ play a critical role in their ability to optimize the information they rely on. It also makes clear that change will occur, as close to half of organizations are not satisfied with their current processes to create and access information. The insights this new research provides will enable Ventana Research to help by providing guidance on how best to make that change occur and to enable business and IT to work together using technology to provide the right information efficiently and effectively.
“The challenges of preparing and providing data in organization has reached a crisis level in terms of how much time is wasted,” said Mark Smith, CEO and chief research officer at Ventana Research. “More than 45 percent of organizations indicate that’s where the most time is spent. And the situation is complicated even more by the number of information sources; today, 38 percent of organizations have more than 11 information sources that need to be integrated for optimal information access or delivery. Then there’s the issue of the use of text and images, new kinds of information that are critical presentation components for more than half of organizations. Ensuring that the proper processes and technologies are in place to manage all this well is essential to being a best-in-class organization.”
