Ventana Research Finds Enterprise Search is New Frontier for Business Intelligence
Market Research finds integration of search technology expanding BI for improving decisions and performance
SAN MATEO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—April 30, 2007 —Ventana Research’s new research study, “Business Intelligence and Search – Combining Technologies to Foster Better Business Decisions” indicates that as volumes of disparate content and data expand, users want the powerful punch of BI and search technology to quickly access relevant information for better decision-making. However, the study also shows that the first wave of business intelligence and search deployments will be to knowledge workers like analysts and management.
“Companies first priority for integrating BI and search is to make more informed and faster decisions,” said Mark Smith, Ventana Research’s CEO & EVP of Research. “Ventana Research believes that the largest impediment to the adoption of BI is the complexity of technology. Integration of search will provide complimentary and direct access to information more rapidly than traditional query type interfaces. This enables knowledge workers to get answers by using business terms they are familiar with, resulting in productivity and adoption.”
Ventana Research will expand on the key findings of this research study at a live interactive webinar - What Everybody Ought to Know About Business Intelligence and Search - on Thursday, May 3, 2007 from 9:00am-10:00am Pacific.
Among the key research findings, Ventana Research found that:
#1 Business Driver – Need to Make More Informed Decisions
Over half of companies indicate most important benefit from integrating search and BI is to make better informed decisions.
Most Important Data - Customer-related Information for Marketing and Sales
The study showed that customer data was the most often cited data by over half of organizations and the primary focus is marketing and sales.
Leading Deployments - Ad-hoc BI Queries
Companies indicate that most of search and BI technology currently deployed or will be deployed in the next year involve running search as ad-hoc queries against information.
Top Requirement – Integrating Structured and Unstructured Data
The majority of respondents (83%) deemed it important that results integrate semi-structured (XML, RSS feeds, etc.) and unstructured data.
The research, sponsored by technology providers Business Objects, Cognos, FAST and Hyperion, is based on an analysis of 322 validated respondents of companies from all major industries. The survey was conducted with the assistance of media partners that included businessintelligence.com, DM Review, Intelligent Enterprise, IT Business Edge and Software Magazine.
