SAN MATEO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 4, 2006—A new research report from Ventana Research reveals that market adoption of open source BI is higher than previously thought and current deployments have been successful. In addition, the vast majority of organizations reported value from pre-built report templates for and metadata integration with Oracle, PeopleSoft and Siebel applications.

The research study, “Open Source and Application BI,” was released by Ventana Research, the leading provider of Performance Management research and advisory services. The company will disclose the key findings of the research study at a liveinteractive webinar on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 9am Pacific. Sign up for the webinar.

The research, sponsored by technology providers Actuate, JasperSoft, Noetix, and Pentaho, explored businesses use and adoption of open source BI software and use and adoption of BI software to access information from enterprise applications (e.g. ERP, CRM, etc.).  The findings are based on an analysis of more than 320 validated respondents.  The survey was conducted with the assistance of media partners that including BusinessIntelligence.com, CMP’s Intelligent Enterprise, DataWarehouse.com, SourceMedia’s DM Review, Eclipse, and TechTarget’s SearchOpenSource.com.

Among the key research findings, Ventana Research determined that:

- 83% of organizations are considering, in the process of deploying or have already implemented open source BI

- Only 4% of respondents said they would not deploy more open source BI in the future based on their current experience

- 86% of organizations reported value from pre-built report templates for ERP and CRM applications

- 90% of organizations reported value from automatic BI metadata updates with ERP and CRM applications

“This is groundbreaking research because of the importance of cost effectively deploying BI to more users throughout the enterprise,” said Dan Everett, Research Director – Business Intelligence at Ventana Research. “The results show that open source BI has reached a point of maturity where the functionality combined with the ease of customization make it a cost effective solution relative to commercial BI software,” Everett added. “This is also exciting research because it showed the value companies can realize from BI solutions tailored to transactional applications such as Oracle, PeopleSoft and Siebel.”
